In the bustling city of Taipei, a unique renovation project has breathed new life into an over 20-year-old house. Designed by Chin-Shu Chen, the Warming Fun project breaks free from traditional concepts and limitations to create a harmonious living space that fosters close family relationships.
The interior ambiance of the house has been carefully crafted to establish a symbiotic relationship between the residents and their environment. By considering the residents' living habits and needs, Chen has created a space that seamlessly integrates architecture, function, and aesthetics.
The highlight of the renovation is the fusion of the living and dining rooms into one cohesive space. This design choice reflects the project's theme of maintaining a close family relationship. At the heart of this space is a large, customized solid wood table that serves multiple functions. It is not only a place for dining but also a hub for game playing, book reading, and working, bringing the family together in various activities.
Chen's design philosophy draws inspiration from organic minimalism, extending the awareness of the five senses and embracing a simple lifestyle. This approach aligns with the principles of Taoism philosophy, emphasizing the connection with nature and the pursuit of peace and comfort. The result is a peaceful symbiosis between the residents and their surroundings, creating a tranquil and comfortable living space.
The Warming Fun project covers an interior area of approximately 106 square feet. To transform the original layout of the house, Chen demolished a traditional Japanese-style room, reconfiguring the space into three rooms and enlarging the public areas and kids' room. This strategic renovation allows for a more spacious and functional living environment.
By combining materials such as wood, stone, and textiles, Chen has successfully balanced the cool spatial atmosphere with warm and inviting elements. The use of overlapping cold tones and solid materials creates a sense of simplicity and tranquility, while also providing a spacious feel to the overall space.
The Warming Fun project is not just a renovation; it is a testament to the power of design in fostering stronger family bonds. The seamless integration of living and dining spaces encourages constant interaction between parents and children, creating a nurturing environment for the entire family. It is a place where every wonderful detail of life can be experienced and cherished.
Recognized for its innovative design and practicality, the Warming Fun project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the project's ability to meet professional and industrial requirements while providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its inhabitants.
